Young Stars Shine at Theatre Festival
Get ready for a theatrical treat as the Royal & Derngate theatre in Northampton becomes the vibrant stage for the National Theatre Connections Festival! This annual extravaganza, now celebrating its 30th year, is set to bring together hundreds of young performers from across the region, including talented groups from Kettering Science Academy, Wollaston School Theatre Company, Kingsthorpe College, and Pegasus Performing Arts in Corby.
Jo Gordon, the enthusiastic chief executive at the Royal & Derngate, highlights the festival as a golden opportunity for young people to dive into exciting new plays, engage in workshops, and connect with fellow theatre enthusiasts. The festival is a testament to the power of theatre in nurturing young talent and fostering a love for the arts.
This year’s line-up is nothing short of spectacular, featuring newly commissioned plays like “Brain Play” by Chloë Lawrence-Taylor and Paul Sirett, “YOU 2.0” by Alys Metcalf, and “The Company of Trees” by Jane Bodie. Each play offers a unique narrative, promising an engaging experience for both performers and audiences alike.
Adding to the excitement, the theatre’s Young Company will revive “Saba’s Swim” by Danusia Samal, a poignant drama exploring themes of grief and identity through the lens of cultural heritage and the healing power of swimming.
The festival, running from 31 March to 6 April, promises an incredible atmosphere, buzzing with youthful energy and creativity. It’s a fantastic reminder of the vibrant cultural scene we have right here in Northampton.
