In Northamptonshire, a group of primary schools is setting a shining example with their impressive attendance records. With more than 300 primary schools across the county, these 17 schools have emerged as leaders, boasting the lowest absence rates and demonstrating the vital link between attendance and academic success.

Good attendance is crucial for pupils to leave primary school equipped with the skills they need for future educational achievements. Yet, nationwide figures reveal room for improvement, with many pupils missing significant school time. The latest Government data shows that one in five pupils were ‘persistently absent’ in the 2023/24 school year, missing at least 10% of half-day sessions.

Research highlights the impact of attendance on academic performance. Pupils attending nearly every day in Year 6 are 1.3 times more likely to meet Government standards in reading, writing, and maths compared to those attending 90-95% of the time. Missing just 10 days can reduce their chances by around 25%.

Among the top performers is Milton Parochial Primary School, leading the list with an absence rate of just 2.5%. Other notable mentions include Blakesley Church of England Primary School and All Saints CEVA Primary School and Nursery, both excelling in attendance and academic standards.

These schools, from small village academies to larger institutions in places like Wellingborough and Towcester, demonstrate that size doesn’t dictate success. Their commitment to fostering an environment where pupils thrive academically and attend regularly is commendable.

At James Anthony, we understand the importance of education in shaping future generations.
