Dive into the World of Puddle Jumping!
The World Puddle Jumping Championships are back, and it’s time to make a splash! This annual event, now in its 12th year, has grown from a local favourite to a global phenomenon, with participants from around the world joining in the muddy merriment. Whether you’re a seasoned puddle jumper or a first-time splasher, this is your chance to shine.
The competition is judged on four key elements: the height of your jump, the enthusiasm you bring, the distance of your splash, and the all-important stickability – that’s the mud that clings to you, for those not in the know. It’s a delightful mix of skill and sheer joy, perfect for families looking to enjoy the great outdoors.
Kelly Richardson, director at Wicksteed Park, encourages everyone to join in the fun, saying, “It’s a fantastic way for children and families to enjoy the fresh air and have a laugh, especially when the sun is shining, and puddles are aplenty.”
Over the years, the event has seen a diverse range of winners, from a nine-year-old local girl to a three-year-old boy from Wales, and even entries from as far as Australia. Last year, a trio of toddlers stole the show, proving that age is just a number when it comes to puddle jumping prowess.
To enter, simply record your puddle jumping antics and post them on the Wicksteed Park Facebook page. Whether you’re leaping into a naturally-formed puddle, one you’ve created, or even a paddling pool, your splash could be the winning one!
