Northamptonshire is set to become a hub for young film enthusiasts, as it welcomes the Northampton Film Festival’s British Film Institute (BFI) short course for the first time. This exciting development offers young people aged 16 to 19 a unique opportunity to delve into the world of film and explore potential careers in the industry.

Taking place in September at The Core at Corby Cube, the course is designed to cover key areas of the film scene. It aims to equip young people with the commercial and cultural skills necessary for their first steps into the industry. Becky Carrier, the festival’s director, promises participants the chance to work with “brilliant local filmmakers with very different backgrounds” and to create a film as a group.

Thanks to funding from the National Lottery, the BFI course will run from September to November. The culmination of the students’ hard work will be showcased at a networking event in March 2025, where their short films will be premiered.

But who is the course for? According to Ms Carrier, it’s not about having prior experience or a clear career path in mind. The festival is seeking applications from passionate individuals across Northamptonshire who are keen to learn and immerse themselves in the world of film production.

So, if you’re a young person from Corby or elsewhere in Northamptonshire with a passion for film and a desire to learn, this could be your ticket into the industry. It’s time to take that first step and get stuck in!
