Northampton was treated to an evening of sublime music last week, as local pianist Okiem Warmann took to the stage at the Royal & Derngate theatre. The internationally acclaimed composer and pianist, who now resides in Daventry, performed to a thrilled crowd during Beverley Knight’s opening show.

Born in London, 39-year-old Okiem began his musical journey at the tender age of nine. His natural talent, nurtured through a full music scholarship at Brunel University, has seen him perform as a classical session pianist for an array of artists, including Emeli Sande, John Legend, and Leona Lewis, to name just a few.

Okiem’s Northampton performance was part of Beverley Knight’s five-date UK tour. The self-proclaimed “cinematic” classical music composer has performed globally, leaving audiences in awe of his talent. After graduating, Okiem spent three years in Moscow, writing and touring with Russian musician Sergey Lazarev.

In 2016, Okiem founded the 18-piece Infinity Orchestra, further showcasing his musical prowess. After relocating to Northamptonshire, he released his debut album, Xiro, in 2017. Described as a “proper passion project”, Okiem composed, recorded, and mixed the album himself.

Okiem’s performance at the Royal & Derngate theatre was a nostalgic one, as he had written his first album just 10 minutes from the venue. His second album, The Golden Circle, was released in 2022, and he is currently finalising his third album, due for release in the upcoming months.

Okiem’s next performance will be at the Utilita Arena in Cardiff. He expressed his desire to perform in Daventry, hoping for an opportunity to share his music with his local community. Northampton’s own Okiem Warmann continues to make waves in the music industry, and we can’t wait to see what he does next.
