Northampton Midwife’s Baby Massage Success Story
In the heart of Northampton, a midwife’s personal experience has blossomed into a thriving business, bringing joy and relief to countless families. Reem Ryanne, a dedicated midwife from Abington Vale, discovered her passion for baby massage after the birth of her daughter in March 2022. Despite undergoing a c-section under general anaesthetic and missing out on initial skin-to-skin contact, Reem found a beautiful way to bond with her baby through baby massage.
Inspired by her own positive experience, Reem undertook extensive training accredited by the International Association of Infant Massage. By January 2023, she launched Milking It Baby Massage, a business dedicated to sharing the benefits of baby massage with families across Northampton.
Reem’s classes are a sanctuary for new parents, offering more than just massage techniques. They provide a holistic approach to parenting, addressing common issues like colic and reflux while also supporting mental health. “Both the baby and parent release oxytocin, which helps with sleep and mental health,” Reem explains. Her sessions also include breathing and relaxation techniques for parents, making them unique in Northampton.
Balancing her role as a midwife at Northampton General Hospital with running her business and being a mother, Reem finds joy in her work. “It’s lovely to see the parents go on a journey over five weeks and become more confident in their skills. It is a privilege,” she says.
Reem’s classes, held every Wednesday at the Harlestone Village Institute, are designed to be relaxed and intimate. Attendees appreciate the quality time away from their busy lives, finding it a tranquil sanctuary. Reem emphasises that there is no rule book for parenting, encouraging parents to share tips and tricks with each other.
Looking ahead, Reem dreams of opening a dedicated space for Milking It Baby Massage, creating a holistic wellbeing centre for families. Her journey is a testament to the power of passion and the impact of personal experiences on professional paths.
