In the heart of Rugby, two young athletes have captured the spirit of boxing with their remarkable performances at a recent regional event. Jack Telford, aged 12, and Sienna Davies, aged 14, who train at the Bradby Club’s Rugby Boxing Academy, showcased their talent and tenacity at a show hosted by Northampton Amateur Boxing Club. These budding boxers participated in skills bouts, which are non-competitive, supervised matches designed to give novice boxers valuable experience without the pressure of winning or losing.

Each bout consisted of three rounds lasting one minute and 30 seconds, with a one-minute rest between rounds. Although there was no declared winner, both Jack and Sienna had their hands raised at the end, symbolising their triumph in courage, determination, and heart—qualities that cannot be quantified on a scorecard.

The Bradby Club spokesperson praised the young athletes for their composure, resilience, and skill, noting that they fought hard until the final bell. Their commitment and work ethic, honed through consistent training at Rugby Boxing Academy, were evident in their performances.

Sienna’s participation was particularly significant, as she became the first female boxer to represent Rugby Boxing Academy in a ring setting. Her achievement marks an important milestone for the club and for girls’ participation in boxing locally. The hope is that Sienna’s courage and success will inspire more young girls across Rugby to step into the gym and embrace the sport.

At James Anthony, we understand the importance of community and the role it plays in shaping young lives. As we celebrate the achievements of Jack and Sienna, we are reminded of the dedication, discipline, and bravery that open doors to new opportunities. For those interested in joining the ranks of these inspiring young athletes, the Bradby Club is the place to start.
