Northampton’s Young Eco-Warrior Inspires Change
Alicia Waters Galan, a 12-year-old from Northampton, is making waves in the fight against plastic pollution. This young dynamo has recently been honoured with the prestigious Young Change-Maker of the Year Award by SuperKind, recognising her incredible impact on both local and global scales.
Alicia, affectionately known as Ali, embarked on her environmental journey at the tender age of seven. Troubled by the litter strewn across her local streets and parks, she joined Kids Against Plastic, a UK-based youth charity. Fast forward a few years, and Ali is now the charity’s Chief Pick-Up Officer, leading a global charge against plastic waste.
Ali set an ambitious target: to collect one million pieces of litter. With the help of volunteers, families, and even strangers, she smashed this goal, gathering over 1.3 million pieces across 37 countries, including right here in Northampton. Her efforts have not only cleaned up our environment but also raised awareness about the dangers of plastic pollution.
Ali’s success is a testament to the power of collaboration. “Real change happens when people work together,” she says, highlighting the importance of community in tackling global issues. Her story is a beacon of hope, showing us that even the youngest among us can drive significant change.
At James Anthony Estate Agents, we’re inspired by Ali’s dedication and the sense of community she fosters. Just as Ali brings people together for a cleaner planet, we bring people together to find their perfect homes in Northampton. We’re proud to be part of a community that nurtures such remarkable young leaders.
