Exciting news for Northampton’s climbing enthusiasts and adventure seekers! The former Wilko unit at Weston Favell shopping centre, which has been vacant since October, is set to be transformed into a thrilling bouldering centre. This new venture is brought to you by the Pinnacle Climbing Centre Group, who are expanding their reach beyond their base in nearby Far Cotton.

Simon Ager, Managing Director of the Pinnacle Climbing Centre Group, expressed his excitement about this expansion. “We’re looking forward to offering more to both the climbing and non-climbing community,” he said. This new development is a testament to Northampton’s growing interest in adventurous, health-focused activities, and the community’s support for local businesses.

For those unfamiliar with the term, bouldering is a form of climbing that involves navigating around and over small rocks, boulders, or indoor walls. The challenge lies in its average height of six metres (19.7ft), and the fact that it’s performed without the use of ropes or harnesses. It’s a test of strength, agility, and problem-solving skills.

The new bouldering centre will cater to a wide range of skill levels. Whether you’re a complete beginner, an experienced climber, or even an aspiring Olympic gold medallist, there’s something for you. “Our motto is ‘Inspiring lifelong climbers’, and this second site really lets us do that,” added Mr Ager.

The bouldering centre is expected to open in the winter of 2024, though an exact date is yet to be confirmed. So, Northampton residents, keep your eyes peeled and your climbing shoes ready for this exciting new addition to our local community!
