Northampton College students recently dazzled a panel of leading experts with their forward-thinking ideas for a sustainable future at The Green Future Challenge. The event saw Level 1 Media and A Level students from Northampton College competing against peers from Milton Keynes College, Cambridge Regional College, Moulton College, and Barnfield College. Despite stiff competition, the Northampton students emerged as joint runners-up, a testament to their creativity and dedication.

The students presented their ideas to esteemed judges, including Stephen Frampton MBE, Founder of Sustainability Support for Further Education, and Paul Thompson, Employment and Skills Manager for the South Midlands Authorities. Their innovative solutions to local sustainability issues were met with praise and admiration.

The Level 1 Media students tackled the pressing issue of disposable vapes, proposing a collection system to recycle the rechargeable lithium batteries they contain. This initiative aims to reduce waste and environmental hazards while providing cost-effective solutions for individuals and institutions. Meanwhile, the A Level students proposed a trade store for pre-loved clothing, encouraging sustainable fashion practices and reducing landfill waste.

Paul Thompson, one of the judges, expressed his admiration for the students’ presentations, noting the quality of their content, teamwork, and organisation. Although the team from Milton Keynes College took the top prize with their recycling and rewards scheme, Northampton College students left a lasting impression.

At James Anthony, we celebrate the innovative spirit of our local students and their commitment to sustainability. Their efforts align with our values of fostering community growth and environmental responsibility. Here’s to a brighter, greener future for Northampton!
