Northampton Orchestra’s Christmas Concert Delight
The Northampton Concert Orchestra (NCO), a cherished gem in our community since 1903, is inviting everyone to their upcoming Christmas concert on December 5th at the St Thomas Centre. With a rich history and only five conductors over its lifetime, the orchestra is a testament to the enduring love for music in Northampton.
Under the baton of David Chambers, who will celebrate his 20th anniversary next year, the orchestra is composed of 40 to 50 passionate amateur musicians. They bring to life a delightful mix of light classics and popular tunes, creating a musical experience that resonates with audiences of all ages.
Angela Dancocks, the newly appointed chair of NCO, is a shining example of the community spirit that the orchestra embodies. Having joined the orchestra at 42, Angela’s journey from a novice violinist to a key member of the group is truly inspiring. Her story is a reminder that it’s never too late to pursue a passion, and the friendships she has formed through the orchestra are a testament to the joy of collaborative music-making.
The upcoming concert promises an enchanting evening filled with Christmas tunes, sing-alongs, a raffle, and refreshments. Tickets are just £10, offering an affordable way to enjoy a festive night out with family and friends.
As the orchestra looks to the future, Angela hopes to grow both the ensemble and its audience. They’re particularly keen to welcome new string players, especially those around grade five or six level. If you’re interested in joining a vibrant musical community, this could be your chance!
