In the heart of Brixworth, near Northampton, a remarkable story of dedication and service has been recognised on a national scale. Sue Watson, the esteemed manager of Pytchley Court nursing home, has been appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the New Year Honours. This accolade celebrates her incredible 50-year career in nursing and adult social care.

Sue’s journey in nursing began at the tender age of 17, following in the footsteps of her family, who have a proud legacy in the nursing profession. Her commitment to care and her community has not only made a significant impact on those she serves but has also brought immense pride to her family, who are ardent royalists.

Pytchley Court, under Sue’s leadership, has been rated as outstanding by the Care Quality Commission, a testament to her dedication and the high standards she upholds. Sue’s approach to care is not just about providing excellent service today but also about nurturing the next generation of nurses. She actively involves student nurses in placements at the home, instilling in them the values and skills that have defined her own career.

Reflecting on her MBE honour, Sue expressed her humility and surprise, stating, “I never in a million years thought that this would ever happen to me.” Her modesty and dedication to her work are truly inspiring.

At James Anthony, we celebrate local heroes like Sue Watson, whose commitment to excellence and community service enriches our lives and sets a standard for future generations. Her story is a reminder of the profound impact one individual can have through dedication and care.
