In the heart of Northamptonshire, a remarkable story unfolds. Meet Tan Brient, a mother-of-three who turned a challenging redundancy into a flourishing business. After being made redundant from her HR role post-maternity leave, Tan embarked on a new journey, offering Sing and Sign sessions across Northampton, Towcester, and Daventry. Her passion for sign language, sparked after her first child, guided her to this fulfilling path.

Sing and Sign is not just any class; it’s a unique blend of music and simplified sign language, crafted to help little ones communicate before they can speak. Operating from Wootton Community Centre, the Elgar Centre, Pattishall Parish Hall, and Cedar Grove Clinic, these sessions are a beacon of communication development for toddlers. The signing system, distinct from both British Sign Language and Makaton, is designed to ease frustration and enhance vocabulary.

The courses, developed by speech and language therapists, stem from a personal story of overcoming speech delays. Tan’s classes, enriched with nursery rhymes and bespoke music, teach up to 300 signs, accommodating even the needs of SEND families. Her dedication is evident, with many families returning term after term.

Tan’s journey is a testament to resilience and innovation. While she juggles her role as an NHS 111 call handler, her commitment to helping families communicate shines through. As speech challenges rise, Tan’s work becomes ever more crucial, offering a lifeline to families eager to enhance their children’s communication skills.

At James Anthony, we celebrate local stories like Tan’s, which enrich our community. If you’re considering a move to Northamptonshire, know that it’s a place where dreams are nurtured and realised.
