Discover Northamptonshire’s Top 9 Secondary Schools
Choosing the right secondary school for your child is a vital decision. It’s not just about academic achievement, but also the support they receive during the tumultuous teenage years. In Northamptonshire, we’re fortunate to have a plethora of excellent state-funded secondary schools. Here, we highlight the top nine, based on their ‘Progress 8’ scores for the 2022/23 school year.
The ‘Progress 8’ score is a unique figure that reflects GCSE results and other student achievements. It helps determine how quickly pupils are learning compared to their peers from similar primary schools nationwide. A score above 0 is positive, but the list below is focused on schools with ‘above average’ to ‘well above average’ scores.
- Northampton Academy: This school, with Christian roots, accepts pupils from all faiths. It had a stellar Progress 8 score of 1.00.
- Wootton Park School: Another Northampton gem, it earned a high Progress 8 score of 0.80.
- Northampton School for Girls: This girls-only school achieved a Progress 8 score of 0.68.
- Sir Christopher Hatton Academy: Located in Wellingborough, this school had a Progress 8 score of 0.59.
- Kettering Buccleuch Academy: A Christian all-through school in Kettering, it had a Progress 8 score of 0.58.
- Brooke Weston Academy: Based in Corby, this school also achieved a Progress 8 score of 0.57.
- Northampton School for Boys: The boys’ counterpart to the Northampton School for Girls, it matched the Brooke Weston Academy with a Progress 8 score of 0.57.
- The Latimer Arts College: A specialist performing arts school near Kettering, it had a Progress 8 score of 0.36.
- Sponne School: Located in Towcester, this school had a Progress 8 score of 0.21.
All these schools had an overall Ofsted rating of ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ before this measure was dropped last month. This means they met or exceeded government standards in education quality, student behaviour, school leadership, and student safeguarding.
Choosing a school is a significant decision, but with Northamptonshire’s wealth of high-performing secondary schools, you’re sure to find the perfect fit for your child.
