Comic Cons for Everyone: Zoe’s Vision
In the bustling world of comic conventions, Zoe Crofts is making waves with her inclusive approach, inspired by her son, who is autistic. Hailing from Milton Keynes, Zoe founded Bolt Events and hosted her first inclusive convention in Northampton in 2022. Her mission? To create an accessible environment for children with hidden disabilities, ensuring everyone can enjoy the magic of comic cons.
Zoe’s events are thoughtfully designed, hosted in smaller, less hectic locations outside of London. This approach allows individuals to enter early and acclimate to their surroundings. “We would rather take fewer vendors and have bigger aisles so people in wheelchairs can come through,” Zoe explains. Her commitment to accessibility extends to providing quiet rooms for those needing a break.
One heartwarming story from a Bedford event highlights Zoe’s dedication. Nicola Nenadovic attended with her family, including her 10-year-old nephew Jack, who has KPTN syndrome, autism, and ADHD. Zoe’s innovative approach helped Jack feel comfortable, giving him control over the costumed characters. This experience was transformative, even inspiring Jack to meet Santa for the first time.
Zoe’s events feature retro gaming zones, cosplayers, film cars, workshops, and over 100 exhibitor tables of geeky memorabilia. With 31 events planned across the country, including stops in Daventry, Luton, Ipswich, and Walsall, Zoe is setting a new standard for inclusive conventions.
At James Anthony Estate Agents, we appreciate Zoe’s family-run events that create safe spaces for everyone. Her story is a testament to the power of community and inclusivity, and we’re proud to support local initiatives that make a difference.
