Leigh Wolmarans, CEO of Northampton’s Silhouette Youth Theatre, has been honoured with the prestigious John Jennings Award for his exceptional contributions to education and the arts.

Leigh, who transitioned from a successful career as a headteacher to leading Silhouette Youth Theatre, has dedicated the past eight years to making performing arts accessible and affordable for all. His work has significantly impacted Northampton, fostering a love for Shakespeare and the arts among young people.

The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) awarded Leigh the John Jennings Award on April 24, recognising his remarkable efforts in connecting young people with Shakespeare’s timeless plays. This award, established in memory of lifelong RSC audience member John Jennings, celebrates individuals who have made significant contributions to Shakespeare teaching.

Jacqui O’Hanlon, RSC’s deputy executive director, praised Leigh’s extraordinary legacy, highlighting his journey from headteacher at Castle Primary School and Lings Primary School to founding the Northampton Primary Academy Trust. Leigh’s commitment to education and the arts has left an indelible mark on the community.

In his acceptance speech, Leigh expressed gratitude to the young people of Silhouette Youth Theatre, their families, practitioners, funders, and local supporters like Weston Favell Shopping Centre and The Emmanuel Group of Churches. His dedication to nurturing young talent and fostering a love for the arts is truly inspiring.

At James Anthony Estate Agents, we understand the importance of community and the arts in enriching our lives. As proud supporters of local initiatives, we celebrate Leigh’s achievements and the vibrant cultural scene in Northampton.
