Celebrating 25 Years of Community Spirit
The Pastures Community Centre in Kingsthorpe, Northampton, recently marked a remarkable 25-year milestone, celebrating its role as a cherished hub for local residents. This vibrant centre on Welford Road has been a cornerstone of community life, thanks to the dedication of volunteers like Robin and Carolyn Marriott, who have been involved since its inception.
Originally built by Northampton Borough Council, the centre was handed over to a committee of volunteers to manage. Robin and Carolyn, along with trustee and director Julia Snedker, have been instrumental in its success. In 2012, the management committee formed Pastures Community, a charity that took over the centre’s operations, with West Northamptonshire Council remaining as landlords.
The centre is a hive of activity, offering something for everyone. From Scouts and Guides to yoga, pilates, and tai chi, there’s a class or group for every interest. It also hosts mum and toddler sessions, kickboxing, zumba, extra tuition, and a board games club. On weekends, it’s a popular venue for children’s parties and family celebrations.
To celebrate the 25-year milestone, the centre opened its doors for a special event, showcasing its offerings through stalls from 10 regular user groups. Entertainment for children, including face painting and magic performances, added to the festive atmosphere. The event was made possible by a generous grant from Kingsthorpe Parish Council, and attendees even contributed to a time capsule, set to be opened in the future.
At James Anthony Estate Agents, we understand the importance of community spaces like The Pastures. They enrich our lives and bring us together, much like the homes we help you find. Here’s to many more years of community spirit in Kingsthorpe!
