In the bustling heart of Northampton, a vibrant melody fills the air, courtesy of Lloyd Francis, affectionately known as Bim. Since June, Bim has been captivating locals on Abington Street and Market Square with his infectious zeal and friendliness, quickly earning his place as a much-loved local legend.

Hailing from Montserrat, Bim’s musical journey began in primary school, where he discovered his natural ear for music. His talent led him to perform on cruise ships and island tours, sharing stages with calypso legends like Arrow and Burning Flames. Recording with the band Chad at Montserrat’s Air Studios, Bim rubbed shoulders with stars like Stevie Wonder and Elton John.

Bim’s journey to Northampton was driven by a heartfelt desire to reunite with his mother, whom he hadn’t seen since 2009. Arriving in mid-April, he began busking to fund his return ticket, but the warmth of the Northampton community has tempted him to extend his stay. His favourite spot, Abington Street, is alive with footfall, where passersby stop to wave, donate, and dance to his lively tunes.

The people of Northampton have embraced Bim with open arms, praising his reggae music and guitar skills. His performances have become a beacon of joy, with song requests pouring in from those who cherish his presence.

While Bim earns enough to cover his weekly bus fare and food expenses, he continues to raise funds for his plane ticket home. Despite the thought of leaving, Bim cherishes the friendships he’s made and the smiles he’s brought to Northampton.

At James Anthony, we celebrate the vibrant community spirit that makes Northampton special. Bimsha’s story is a testament to the town’s kindness and the power of music to unite and uplift.
