Northampton Bakery Triumphs at National Awards
Nestled in the heart of Northampton’s historic boot and shoe quarter, Magee Street Bakery has long been a beloved fixture for locals seeking artisan delights. This year, the bakery has added another feather to its cap by being crowned the county winner for Northamptonshire at the prestigious National Bakery Awards 2025.
Since its inception in January 2015, Magee Street Bakery has been a beacon of quality, offering homemade breads, pastries, and sandwiches, alongside locally roasted coffee. The bakery’s pièce de résistance is its 24-hour fermented sourdough bread, a testament to the dedication and expertise of its owners, Jooles and Carl Joyce. Their ‘Scotch Egg Sunday Special’ has also become a local legend, drawing food enthusiasts from near and far.
Jooles and Carl, who took over the bakery in 2018, bring a wealth of catering experience to the table. Their journey began at the original Buddies in the town centre, and their passion for quality food has only grown since then. The recent award win is a testament to their hard work and the loyal customer base they’ve cultivated over the years.
Despite the challenges of rising costs in 2025, Magee Street Bakery continues to thrive, thanks to its consistency and generous portions. Customers appreciate the fact that everything is made on-site, adding to the bakery’s charm and authenticity.
Looking ahead, Jooles and Carl are hopeful about expanding their premises and opening hours. As they continue to delight Northampton with their culinary creations, we at James Anthony are proud to support such vibrant local businesses that make our community a wonderful place to live. Keep an eye on their social media for exciting updates!
